For more than 20 years, Ace Architects has collected souvenir buildings and three-dimensional architectural replicas of structures from around the world. David Weingarten and Margaret Majua have built the largest single collection of miniature architectural replicas, approximately 3,000 pieces, dating from the early 19th century to today. They are the authors of two books about souvenir buildings, Monumental Miniatures and Souvenir Buildings Miniature Monuments. Their collection has been on exhibit many places including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Art Institute of Chicago, Octagon Museum, Museum of the City of New York, and San Francisco International Airport Museum. A new exhibit is planned for the Ontario Airport in southern California beginning July 4, 2008. As you might expect, the impressive collection gets lots of attention from the media such as these stories from the New York Times, Virginia Pilot, CNN and the San Francisco Chronicle. Take a virtual tour of their display of their Impressive collection and display at their California home. David reports that another website, perhaps with more souvenir building content, is in development. Check out the photo gallery below of the Ace Architect’s collection. Thanks to David W. and Darron C. for the images.
